FOUNDATION 2 NEWSLETTER
This term we are going to start by looking at the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. The aim is for the children to be able to join in with the story, understand key vocabulary and identify and find out about the different characters. We will also sequence and write sentences about the story.
We are going to read the story in sections with activities like how far can you throw a bean? Making bean salad, growing beans, role playing the story in the castle and another Forest Schools day on the school field.
If you have a copy of the book it would be great if you could read it to your child or borrow one from the library. You can also watch the story on YouTube. After half term we are going to look at animals as the children are very interested in farm animals and safari animals!
We will also be learning about the Easter story.

Daily sentence writing with parent/carers from Monday 9th January – the children will have practised completing a simple sentence like, “I can ------.’’There will be “I can” cards on the table and the children need to copy the “I can’’ and then add their own word e.g. I can hop. Please help your child to sound out the word they want to write or have a try if it is a more difficult word. It is about your child being confident to have a go and try their best. We may challenge some of the children to write a longer sentence. If you look in their books you will be able to see what they have been practising with us. Any questions please ask Mrs Lugowska or myself.
Reading Children are given a reading book and sounds/words to learn. Please bring in your child’s reading folder every day
Please read with your child as often as you can and practise their sounds and reading skills.
Each time that you hear your child read please sign your name in their reading diary. Every three signatures over three weeks your child will receive a reading ribbon.
Is on Wednesday afternoon. Please make sure that your child has red shorts and a white top in a named bag on their peg.
Please can children only bring water in a named bottle to the Unit.
Every day the children can choose to go outside for 75 minutes in each session. Please make sure that your child has a suitable coat because we go out in all weathers including the rain! Please bring wellington boots on wet days.
I hope that this helps to explain what is happening in the Foundation unit with the Foundation 2 children.
Please read the school newsletter for weekly events, read the parents’ board and ask the staff if you have any queries.
