on Thursday, 02 February 2017.

Dear Parents/Carers,

This half term we have been covering the following-

Maths- We have started to work with numbers to 20 and have be counting to 20, writing numbers to 20, comparing numbers, ordering numbers, looking at number patterns, add by counting on, subtract by counting back, subtract by subtracting in 1s, subtract from 10 and have learnt some addition and subtraction facts. We are able to recognise solids/shapes, group shapes and make patterns. We have compared height and length, measure using things and body parts.

English- We have focused our writing around The Gingerbread Man and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We will learn the stories by heart and then write them with our own different ending. We will learn when to use capital letters, use and and because to write longer sentences and will use the sounds that we have learned in phonics lessons to support our spelling. We will also learn to use interesting vocabulary to excite our reader. We will continue to read in a group and individually every week.

RE- We will learn about Jesus through stories.

Science- Our focus will be on materials and their properties.

DT- We have designed a getaway vehicle for The Gingerbread Man and will make a floating boat for The Billy Goats.

PE- We have been exploring balance through floor work and using the equipment.

We will continue to alternate Music (Mr Baxter) and French (Mrs Hopwood) lessons each week.

We have had a Gingerbread Man Decorating Party to celebrate the end of our work.

There will be some homework sent home for the half term. This will have an element of choice and we will send you a guidance sheet home to help you help your children. We will also be assessing the children on their phonics knowledge this will be instead of individual reading.

Please feel free to ask any questions!

Thank you

Miss Evans
