YEAR 4'S NEWSLETTER
Year 4 Spring Term Newsletter
2017 so far...
We have had an exciting few weeks so far in 2017, especially since our attendance was so good in the Autumn term - we were privileged to be able to go to Frankie and Benny's to make our own pizza and enjoy a morning out together.
We have also had Forest School and an amazing Epic Egyptian Quest where the children received a rather exciting parcel which took them on a guided tour of Ancient Egypt. They had to solve a number of mysteries and puzzles to save the people of ancient Egypt to complete the quest!
Curriculum this term
As you are probably already aware, our topics are Ancient Egypt and Extreme Earth this term. These are in full swing and the children are loving all of the science, history and geography they are learning. We will be using these topics to learn how to write newspaper reports, recounts, stories and poems, as well as accessing lots of non-fiction texts for our English work.
In maths, we will be tacking more complex division and multiplication, before learning about fractions and decimals.
You are invited!
Next Wednesday, 1st February, we will be having 'Bedtime Story Day', which we would love to invite you to. In the morning, we will be visiting Central Library in Nottingham, and then in the afternoon we will be getting into our pyjamas, drinking hot chocolate and snuggling up with our books! Please join us from 1.30-2.30 in the afternoon with your favourite book (and your PJ's too if you like!)
I am sure you will have noticed that I have begun to use Showbie, an online system for assessing, setting work and generally getting the children excited about their work. If you have any questions about how this works, please do come and ask me. Please do encourage the children to access this at home (you don't need the app, just a web browser) as they can then continue their learning. Some homework will be set via Showbie this term.
Homework expectations this term are:
- reading 4 times each week at home, with this recorded in their reading diary
- Spellings are to be learnt each week which will now be tested on a Friday
- Times tables are tested each week so the children need to learn them
- Sometimes additional homework will be set via Showbie
PE and Forest School
PE will now just be on a Friday, and Forest School will continue to run each Tuesday. Please ensure your child has both an indoor and outdoor PE kit. Just a reminder too, that earrings are only to be worn for PE if they cannot be removed.
Thank you! Your continued support makes all the difference! You know where I am if you have any concerns or questions, or please feel free to message me on Class Dojo.
